A Concern Noticed Early Is Easier to Understand
Tantrums, attention difficulties, sleep struggles, worry, or changes in mood are common parts of childhood โ but sometimes a pattern is worth a closer look. Our Pediatrics team is often the first place parents raise these concerns, and we work closely with our psychiatry and psychology colleagues when more specialised support is helpful.
Bacchon ke behavior mein ups and downs normal hain โ lekin agar koi pattern persist kare, toh usse samajhna aur sahi support dena zaroori hai.
Coordinated care, not a single stop โ the right specialist joins when needed.
What’s Typical, and What’s Worth Discussing
Most childhood behaviour is a normal part of development. The pattern, intensity, and impact on daily life are what help distinguish typical variation from something worth a closer look.
| Usually a Typical Part of Childhood | Worth Discussing With Us |
|---|---|
| Occasional tantrums, especially in toddlers | Frequent, intense outbursts that disrupt daily functioning |
| Being shy in new situations | Persistent, significant distress that limits everyday activities |
| Difficulty sitting still occasionally | Attention or activity levels consistently affecting school or home life |
| Mood changes with normal ups and downs | A persistent low mood, withdrawal, or loss of interest in usual activities |
| A single sleep-disrupted night | Ongoing sleep difficulty affecting daytime functioning |
| Reaching a milestone a little later than peers | Losing a previously acquired skill |
Areas of Common Concern
These are broad categories, not a checklist, each child’s situation is individually assessed rather than matched against a symptom list.

Difficulty focusing, following instructions, or sitting still, in ways that affect school or home life.
Mood & Emotions
Persistent sadness, irritability, worry, or emotional changes that last beyond what feels typical.
Social Communication
Differences in social interaction, communication, or play that a parent or teacher has noticed.
Sleep & Routine
Ongoing sleep difficulties or resistance to routines that affect daily functioning.
Behavioural Outbursts
Frequent, intense tantrums or oppositional behaviour beyond typical developmental stages.
School-Related Stress
Anxiety, reluctance, or difficulty coping with academic or social pressure at school.
Habits & Repetitive Behaviours
Repetitive actions or habits that a parent finds concerning or that interfere with daily activities.
Regression
Losing a previously acquired skill or reverting to earlier behaviours, this category deserves prompt attention.
How the Referral Pathway Works
This page and our Pediatrics team are usually the first point of contact, not the final destination for every concern. Here’s how coordinated care actually happens.
- Initial Pediatric ConsultationYou share what you’ve observed. Our Pediatrics team takes a full history and assesses your child, including ruling out any physical or developmental cause.
- Discussion & Initial GuidanceFor many concerns, guidance, monitoring, or simple strategies at this stage are enough.
- Referral, When AppropriateIf a concern would benefit from specialised evaluation, we refer within our hospital to Dr. Akash Parihar’s psychiatry practice or Dr. Neha Mehra’s clinical psychology practice, whichever fits best.
- Specialised AssessmentThe receiving specialist conducts their own detailed assessment, which may include psychometric testing where appropriate.
- Coordinated Ongoing CareYour Pediatrics team and the specialist remain in coordination, so your child’s overall care stays connected rather than fragmented.
Our Coordinated Team
When a referral is appropriate, your child is referred within our own hospital, to specialists who already understand our approach to care.

Meet the Mental Health Team โSupporting Your Child at Home
While you’re navigating a concern, some things generally help every child.
Stay Curious, Not Reactive
Approaching a behaviour with curiosity (“what’s going on for you?”) rather than immediate correction often opens more useful conversation.
Keep Routines Steady
Predictable routines around sleep, meals, and daily structure provide a sense of stability that supports emotional regulation.
Involve School Thoughtfully
Teachers often notice patterns parents don’t see day-to-day, their observations can be genuinely useful context.
Addressing the Stigma Directly
Many families feel hesitant about seeking mental health support for a child, worried about judgment, misunderstanding, or the idea that it means something is fundamentally “wrong” with their child. This hesitation is understandable, but it can delay support that would genuinely help.
Seeking support for a behavioural or emotional concern is no different from seeking care for any other aspect of your child’s health. It reflects attentive parenting, not a failure of it.
What We Will Not Promise
Honest expectations help families make good decisions.
A diagnosis from a single conversation
That every concern needs specialist referral
An identical treatment plan for every child
That concerns resolve on a fixed timeline
Questions Parents Ask
Noticed Something You’d Like to Discuss?
You don’t need to have it all figured out. Bring your observations, and we’ll help you understand what’s typical, what’s worth a closer look, and what support might help.
Apne observations laayein, hum saath milkar samajhenge.
Understanding a child’s behaviour takes patience, coordination, and the right specialist at the right moment.
Our Pediatrics team is glad to be your starting point, and equally glad to bring in the right colleague when that’s what genuinely serves your child.
